Charlie Allen - Session Work
I'm Charlie and I have been playing there guitar for over a decade now, with a large portion of that time spent in originals bands where I gained lots of valuable experience in song-writing and working within a band. This experience allows me to seamlessly slot into any projects that I am faced with. Working as a Session Guitarist has taken me from guitar demos, to touring the country, and even achieving career-goals along the way.
What Do I Have to Offer?
STUDIO & LIVE PERFORMANCE
With over five years experience of performing all over the UK with multiple artists, I most often find myself working for an artist's live band. This has also been accompanied with studio recording sessions with various artists in different genres. I have incredible attention to detail when approaching new material and learn the songs inside-out to give the best perfjoamcne that I possibly can.
PRODUCT DEMONSTRATIONS
I have studied the building process of guitars, amps, and pedals ever since I decided that music was the life for me. This has resulted in having a large knowledge of different components that I believe helps me to deliver better Product Demonstrations. In fact, this the first form of Session Work that I had done was a guitar demo for José Marques Custom Guitars.
AURAL LEARNING & SIGHT-READING ABILITIES
I am able to read chord charts, sight-read music manuscript, and also read guitar tablature. However, if you do not have this for your music then that's not a problem because I am able to learn from just listening to the track, or Aural Learning for short. I have worked through Aural Learning with the majority of my session work but I also have experience learning from charts.
GENRE VERSATILITY
As a jazz guitarist, I predominantly play in the styles of Neo-Soul, Jazz, R'n'B, Funk, and Hip-Hop. However, in my career I have performed with Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, and Contemporary artists. Furthermore, I am well-versed in Flamenco and Classical guitar studies, as well as Country music.
"I am a luthier based in Suffolk and my main activity resides mainly in building handmade acoustic instruments. I have been doing this activity for many years investing also in my professional knowledge. Apart from building I also provide repairs to guitars and set ups, etc. Charlie has contacted me for this purpose and that is how we met. Among other instruments I have built an electric guitar with my own model and as I was in need of someone to test it and give it feedback I have reached out to Charlie for this. He has tested my guitar and also recorded a video which has been used for his portfolio and to promote my brand. During this process where we worked together Charlie was always very assertive and professional. He would listen to my feedback and was easy to engage in this project being flexible and engaging well on it. We have agreed dates to meet up for discussions and Charlie was always reliable and pleasant to work with.”
